When staying near Zion, UT, the national park should not be the only destination on you itinerary. Despite the plethora of other scenery to see in the region, Zion, UT is worth a day or more of exploration. The park’s main attractions are its narrow canyons and towering sandstone monoliths, including the Court of the Patriarchs, Angels Landing, and the Great White Throne, quite possibly its most famous formation. Zion offers many easy hiking trails that are less than four miles long, including Canyon Overlook, Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock, Riverside Walk, and the Pa’rus Trail, a paved path near Zion’s entrance that is the only trail in the park that allows bicycles. The Zion Canyon Shuttle, the only way to access the most popular portion of the park from April to October, provides an excellent preview of its one-of-a-kind scenery.
When planning a trip to Zion, UT and the surrounding area, consider Panguitch as your base camp. The charming town is only 24 miles from Bryce Canyon, 32 miles from Cedar Breaks and 75 miles from Zion. A day trip to Zion from Panguitch would be an enjoyable drive on two of the state’s scenic byways, U.S. 89 and UT 9. Panguitch is also away from the crowds so common in the Zion-Springdale area.
