Utah's Kodachrome Basin State Park near Bryce Canyon National Park
Just a few miles southeast of Tropic on Scenic Byway 12, Cannonville sits amid breathtaking scenery.
Together with Tropic and Henrieville, Cannonville is part of the scenic Bryce Valley. The three ranching
communities lie along Scenic Byway 12, Utah’s first all-American Road. Cannonville borders Grand
Staircase Escalante National Monument and Dixie national Forest, and offers convenient access to the
intriguing hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park and Kodachrome Basin State Park’s colorful sandstone
formations.

Bryce Canyon National Park is just 15 miles west of Cannonville via a leisurely drive along Scenic Byway
12. Take some time to explore Red Canyon near Bryce Canyon National Park. Nine miles south of
Cannonville, 67 “sand pipes” are the main attraction at 2,240-acre Kodachrome Basin State Park. To
reach Kodachrome Basin State Park from Cannonville, head south on Main Street/Kodachrome Way and
bear southeast on Cottonwood Canyon Road until you reach Kodachrome State Park Road.
A side excursion to nearby Grosvenor Arch is well worth the trip. Grosvenor Arch can be reached by
continuing southeast on Cottonwood Canyon Road to a marked dirt road, located within the boundaries
of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (GSENM). The natural stone arch spans a massive 92
feet and stands 152 feet high. You can find more information about this and other geologic attractions
at the GSENM’s Cannonville Visitor Center. The visitor center, which presents a look at the area’s human
history, is open seasonally and is located on Center Street.
